A great day of music and meet ups down to the Ibiza IMS yesterday, celebrating its 10th year of top quality music conferences. I still remember the first time we ever went to the IMS in 2011, the excitement to be at an event of this nature, in Ibiza, surrounded by international djs, club promoters, record labels, industry leaders across the board, as well as all the press and media that love to share the stories of dance music.
There’s always some special and exciting connections to be made at the IMS, we first met Carl Cox and the Safehouse Management team that first year, which opened up the doors for our first time filming Carl Cox’s 10th anniversary at Space Ibiza, and this continued on for another 7 years, and 5 countries of coverage. Since the launch of our record label, Ben Fhurst has met and brought in some great new producers to the label from the IMS, including Sean Branton, which all began one tame afternoon at the beach club bar…. And went on a lot further as they built a new friendship.
7 years later, and not much has changed about the IMS, except it’s moved location to the hard rock hotel, pretty much on the beach, and it’s gotten bigger and better, with more brands, countries and djs getting involved in learning and sharing the love for dance music and our industry. So it was a great pleasure yesterday when I got to meet up with fellow South African, DJ Euphonik, right her in Ibiza, and chat about the Ibiza – SA connection that is growing stronger each year, with more South Africans visiting Ibiza, more SA djs rising up to international level, and of course, black coffee flying the flag for us all with his upcoming Saturday Night residency at the new Hi Ibiza, taking over the old 27 year legend that was Space Ibiza.
I love bringing people together, and yesterday was a special day for connections, seeing our label artist, Rufus white, also product specialist for native instruments, and, friend Ryan Koriya, Zimbabwean vocalist and musician also out visiting Ibiza, all together with Euphonik and Bhekzi out from SA, talking music, technology and their favourite bpms around the pool in the sunshine right here in Ibiza. We look forward to spending some more time with Euphonik and showing him around the magic island of Ibiza and catch up on things on the South African scene.
From this awesome SA connection, the afternoon was filled with the opportunity to bring music lovers together from all different paths, sounds and genres, as well as meet up with some of the key brands and businesses making waves in the music and clubbing industry. From the guys at Emerging Ibiza giving young new artists amazing opportunities to break through into Ibiza, the Evermix guys bringing in some amazing new new technology to the DJ and club scene, the Ibiza DJ awards team, this year celebrating their 20th anniversary, The boys from Game Over bringing Carl Cox to Privilege this year, our favorite Pacha resident graham Sahara presenting the radio shows on pioneer DJ radio, and everyone from bushwacka, Seth troxler, Roger Sanchez and the Acid Monday’s boys about the scene.
Being around the pool, beachside in Ibiza, the IMS kindly and quite appropriately also provided several different DJ set ups, with DJ competitions and showcases running through the day, while the music lovers got involved with a good daytime dance and the sunshine lovers got involved in some kind of public bikini showcase for our photographer Manuel Ruiz, quite clearly enjoying his newly found lucky life here in Ibiza.
Big thanks and congrats to Danny Whitte, Mark Netto and all the IMS leaders and team for 10 years of bringing the scene closer together, and into one place, where we can all meet, share, do business, dance, and enjoy the industry we love so much.
If you’re in Ibiza today, get yourself down to the IMS finale up at Dalt Vila for the incredible open air party that only gets to take place on this one special day each year. Until the next time, remember, do what you love, and the luck will find you.
